Q. Which
web browsers are able to run the Interactive Maps application?
A. Internet Explorer 6+ and Mozilla Firefox 2+ browsers are supported at present. Other browsers may also work.
Q. Does the Interactive Maps application use popups?
A. Yes the Interactive Maps application uses "popups", so you should allow popups for this site www.gis.napier.govt.nz, otherwise some features may not work.
Q. How important
is my internet connection speed when running the Interactive Maps application?
A. Most of the work is done by our server - your computer just
needs to be able to tell our server what it wants to do, and bring
back the images over the internet. So the faster internet connection you have the better!
Bringing
back the map images from our server is the job which takes the most time
in the Interactive Maps application, so the faster you can retrieve them
the faster the Interactive Maps application will run. A 56kb/s modem
will work ok, a broadband connection will be even better!
Q. Do I need Java installed?
A. No, the Interactive Maps application does not require Java.
Q. What
screen resolution do I need to run the Interactive Maps application?
A. The Interactive Maps application has been optimised for a
screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or better.
Q. What
screen colours do I need to run the Interactive Maps application?
A. A minimum of 256 colours is required. A higher colour setting
will display Aerial photos better!
Q. Anything
else that affects performance?
A. The most recent browser version is always recommended. Note
also that our Aerial Photography uses much more complex imagery than
the other map data, and the resulting image files are larger and take
longer to send.
